No additional tools are required for standard assembly. A level is recommended during final height adjustment to ensure proper table calibration, though not strictly necessary for basic assembly.

How do I mount my Harvey RT-685 or RT-800 router table to the RT-S table stand?

Harvey router tables feature direct mounting compatibility:

1. Complete RT-S stand assembly including legs, brackets, and feet

2. Position router table on top brackets aligning side mounting holes

3. Use included M8x25 cap screws with flat and spring washers

4. Secure table through pre-aligned holes on long top bracket sides

5. Tighten all fasteners systematically ensuring even pressure

6. Verify table security before connecting power or operating router

The Harvey tables are specifically designed for RT-S compatibility, eliminating custom drilling or modification requirements.

Can I use the Compass RT-S Router Table Stand with a custom-built router table?

Yes, the RT-S accommodates custom router tables with considerations:

- Reference top bracket mounting hole patterns in manual for drill locations

- Ensure custom table overlaps all four top bracket mounting points

- Verify total system weight remains under 330 lb capacity

- Use appropriate fasteners for table material and thickness

- Consider table overhang beyond stand perimeter for workpiece support

The flexible mounting configuration on top brackets provides multiple hole pattern options for various custom table designs. Some installations may require drilling mounting holes in the custom table to match bracket patterns.

Operation and Performance:

How does the integrated power switch system work on the Compass RT-S Router Table Stand?

The RT-S features professional electromagnetic switch control:

1. Connect power switch assembly cord to wall outlet (120V standard receptacle)

2. Plug router power cord into socket located on switch assembly

3. Ensure router power switch is in ON position (control transfers to stand)

4. Remove safety pin from green start button on switch assembly

5. Press green start button to energize router through electromagnetic switch

6. Use red stop button for immediate power shutdown

The system includes overload protection automatically tripping under excessive current draw, protecting both router and electrical system. The safety pin prevents accidental startup during maintenance or router bit changes.

How do I move the Compass RT-S Router Table Stand around my workshop?

The parallel lifting mechanism provides simple mobility:

1. Disconnect main power cord from wall outlet before moving

2. Press foot pedal firmly to engage three-roller system

3. Stand raises automatically and locks in elevated position

4. Move stand to desired location using rolling action

5. Press foot pedal again at destination to release rollers

6. Stand lowers gently as rollers retract and support feet contact floor

7. Verify level using ball head feet adjustment if needed

8. Reconnect power and resume operation

Always disconnect power before moving to prevent accidental router startup or cord damage during transport.

What is the maximum weight capacity of the Compass RT-S Router Table Stand?

The RT-S supports 330 lbs (150kg) maximum load capacity including:

- Router table weight (Harvey RT-800 weighs 102 lbs)

- Router motor and lift system weight (typically 20-40 lbs)

- Mounted accessories including fences, guards, dust collection

- Workpiece weight during operation (minimal impact on standing load)

This capacity accommodates heavy cast iron router tables with professional router systems while maintaining stability during operation and mobility. Exceeding the weight limit compromises structural integrity and lifting mechanism function.

How do I adjust the stand height for uneven workshop floors?

Height adjustment uses ball head support feet:

1. After initial assembly, rotate all four feet clockwise equal number of turns

2. Extend feet until rollers lift 0-2mm above floor surface

3. Test lifting mechanism to verify proper roller engagement

4. Place precision level on router table surface

5. Fine-tune individual feet by turning clockwise (extend) or counter-clockwise (retract)

6. Achieve level table position through incremental adjustments

7. Tighten lock nuts on each foot against support legs

8. Verify level maintained after tightening lock nuts

9. Recheck level periodically during use, particularly after moving stand

The ball head design accommodates significant floor variations while maintaining stable router table positioning.

Apply light machine oil to roller shafts and appropriate grease to swing shaft mechanism monthly. The RT-S requires minimal special maintenance when used in appropriate workshop environments avoiding prolonged damp conditions.

How do I troubleshoot if the lifting mechanism stops working properly?

Common lifting mechanism issues and solutions:

Problem: Pedal does not engage rollers

- Check roller ground clearance adjustment (should be 0-2mm above floor)

- Verify all foot pedal assembly fasteners are tight

- Inspect tension spring for damage or disconnection

- Ensure stand weight is not pressing rollers into floor

Problem: Stand does not lock in raised position

- Clean roller shafts and swing mechanism components

- Apply lubricant to roller shaft bearings and pivot points

- Verify automatic locking mechanism moves freely

- Check for debris interfering with locking function

Problem: Uneven lifting or tilting during raising

- Verify equal weight distribution on base platform

- Check all four support legs properly secured to base

- Confirm top brackets evenly mounted and tight

- Inspect for bent or damaged roller components

If problems persist after basic troubleshooting, contact Harvey customer service for technical support and warranty assistance.

Can I use the Compass RT-S Router Table Stand outdoors or in damp environments?

No, the RT-S is designed for indoor workshop use only:

- Electrical components require dry environment to prevent shock hazards

- Electromagnetic switch and overload protection require moisture-free operation

- Aluminum components and steel fasteners subject to accelerated corrosion in damp conditions

- Prolonged humidity exposure degrades lubricants and moving part function

Can I install a router table larger than the RT-685 or RT-800 on the RT-S stand?

Yes, with considerations for mounting and stability:

- Maximum weight capacity of 330 lbs includes table, router, lift, and accessories

- Table must overlap all four top bracket mounting points for secure attachment

- Consider additional table overhang for workpiece support beyond stand perimeter

- May require custom drilling in table bottom to match bracket hole patterns

- Verify table size does not interfere with lifting mechanism or support feet

- Extremely large tables may benefit from supplementary support legs at extended corners

Consult Harvey technical support for guidance on specific large table installations to ensure proper mounting security and operational stability.

Benchtop mortiser table

I’ve been hand carrying my Powermatic mortiser from the floor in the corner of my shop to my bench when needed. This horrified my wife given its weight and my 70 year old back. So she bought me this stand and it works perfectly with the mortiser! Very mobile and yet very stable when dropped on four feet. This is a very high quality stand and I can praise it enough!

Great Router Stand

This router stand from Harvey is well thought out. It was definitely faster than building one, and the built-in casters are slick. I would highly recommend for anyone wanting a standalone stand.

After several different brands and just not finding that perfect balance in function and durability I finally found THE ONE! These are amazing. I have one for a full Harvey router system which is just next level in itself, but I got a second cart for drill press and storage cart. Only pic on it is the directions. The manual is tiny and not written well. It leaves a lot of guessing on what bolts and such to use and there are a ton. Having a short assembly video would be amazing. Sill a 20 out of 10 on these cars and ALL Harvey products. A must buy!

Solid table that includes all the bits others add as extra cost items.
