Educational Institution Safety & Intended Use Policy
Harvey woodworking machinery and equipment are intended for use in supervised educational, vocational, commercial, and professional woodworking environments. All equipment must be installed, operated, and maintained according to Harvey instructions and all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
Purchasing institutions are solely responsible for:
●Providing proper operator training and supervision
●Enforcing shop safety procedures and PPE requirements
●Maintaining equipment and safety devices
●Ensuring compliance with OSHA, school district, insurance, and local safety requirements
Woodworking machinery involves inherent risks of injury. Operators should never bypass guards or safety devices and should only operate equipment after proper instruction and authorization.
Minor Operator Guidelines
Federal and California labor laws generally prohibit individuals under 18 years of age from operating power-driven woodworking machinery in employment settings, including equipment such as table saws, jointers, planers, shapers, routers, and band saws. Limited educational exemptions may apply under certain supervised vocational or student-learner programs.
Harvey Industries strongly recommends:
●18+ for operation of industrial woodworking machinery
●Continuous instructor supervision for all student use
●Formal machine-specific safety training
●Written institutional safety procedures and emergency protocols
Educational institutions are solely responsible for determining eligibility for minor participation and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and insurance requirements.
Harvey Industries does not certify or authorize minor operation of machinery and assumes no responsibility for improper use, inadequate supervision, unauthorized modifications, or failure to follow safety procedures.
